What This Site Does
Paycheck Calculator USA estimates your take-home pay for every US state and DC. You enter your pay, pay frequency, filing status and deductions, and the calculator works out federal income tax withholding, Social Security, Medicare and state tax, then shows what is left in your paycheck.
How the Numbers Are Built
Federal withholding follows the IRS percentage method in Publication 15-T for 2026. FICA rates and wage bases come from the Social Security Administration and the IRS. State figures use each state’s published rates, brackets and deductions, and the state pages show local minimum wage and Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data alongside them. Every calculation runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us. See the methodology page for the full list of sources and assumptions.
What It Does Not Do
The results are estimates. Real withholding depends on your employer’s payroll setup, Form W-4, pre-tax benefits, local and city taxes, and other details a calculator cannot see. State calculations are simplified, so confirm anything important with your state revenue department, your payroll team or a tax professional. Nothing here is tax, legal or payroll advice.
Keeping It Accurate
Tax rules change every year. We update rates, thresholds and standard deductions when the IRS and the states publish new figures. If you spot a number that looks wrong, please tell us so we can check it against the official source.
